Move over or slow down. It’s that simple. By following these two rules of the road, you can help save lives and avoid receiving a traffic ticket—or even losing your driver’s license.

In accordance with Iowa state law, pledge to move over or slow down when approaching ANY vehicle stopped on the side of the road with its flashing lights activated.

TAKE THE PLEDGE

Keep Iowa’s Utility Workers Safe
In the State of Iowa, drivers should obey the law and move over or slow down when approaching stationary vehicles with flashing lights activated.

Rules of the Road
This Iowa law is designed to protect the safety and welfare of motorists, emergency responders and utility workers on Iowa’s roadways. As of July 1, 2018, Iowa's move over law has been expanded to require motorists to change lanes or slow down when approaching ANY vehicle with flashing emergency light or hazard lights activated.
